The 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra was developed by the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) which was headed by John Coletti. The '03-'04 Mustang Cobra was nicknamed the "Terminator" during development. Powered by a 4.6L DOHC motor that sported forged pistons, rods with a counterweighted crank and feed by a Eaton Roots-type supercharger. The '03-'04 Cobra produced an estimated 390 horsepower with 390 pounds of torque. Back by a Tremec T56 six-speed transmission that was linked to a independent rear suspension. The rear axle carried a 8.8 in. ring gear with a 3.55:1 ratio. The front suspension was a modified Macpherson strut with gas charged Bilstein struts and 600 lb. coil springs (500 lb. on convertible). The front sway bars were 29mm. The rear suspension was a Multi-link independent that carried Bilstein struts supported by 600 lb. coil springs (470 lb. on convertible). The rear sway bar was a 26mm.
The 2004-2004 Mustang Cobra is high on the list for the Mustang performance enthusiasts. The "Terminator" is a beast and a muscle car dream for the horsepower addict. With the supercharged 4.6L engine the potential for more horsepower was only a few steps away. One of the first mods that a Cobra owner should do is install an aftermarket exhaust. From the factory the '03-'04 Cobra came with 2.25" diameter exhaust tubing, aftermarket Cobra exhausts vary between 2.5" and 3".
